Barrett Rec7 Di SBR Build in .300 BLK

This 10.25” Rec7 Di has had several different configurations over the years but its purpose has always been the same, put meat on the table during hunting season.

I've always tried to accomplish the following with this particular weapon system:

1.) Keep the gun as light as possible

2.) Always run suppressed

3.) Be compatible with all my NV/Thermal devices

4.) Be capable at the majority of Southeastern hunting distances

Over the past few years the gun has put a fair amount of deer in the freezer as well as many hogs. It has certainly done its part.

For this year, I added the Vortex Razor HD LH in 1.5-8x32 and the full length Aero Precision Rail as well as swapped the Dead Air Wolfman for a Nomad Ti. I experimented with LPVOs on it in previous seasons and they are great except for dawn/dusk. Fixed power scopes like ACOGs performed very well in low light but didn't have enough magnification to really look over the game when you are trying to be discerning in what you take.

While the extra 8mm of objective increase this scope has over a standard LPVO might not make much difference, it certainly should be more capable in the evening and maybe allow a touch extra magnification when light is precious. The G4 BDC reticle is fan-freaking-tastic...one you can tell was built with the hunter in mind. Thick where it needs to be and simple. For me, someone who only shoots .300 Black in supersonic form, this is darn near the perfect reticle. Shots are typically limited to 200 or 250 yards MAX so subtensions for wind are mostly a waste. This is a simple, fast, visible reticle with a couple of extra holds. I think they nailed it.

Beyond that, the scope weighs only 13 ounces....another reason I chose it. The scope AND mount are lighter than my other LPVO's alone. True 1x is not really needed in a hunting scenario and 1.5x is plenty fast enough if things go south. 8x on the top end allows you to figure out if he really does look as good as you think.

The longer Aero Quantum rail allows for more rail space for my weapons mounted NV and thermal. Additionally, I always like as long of a rail as possible so that if I find myself in an awkward shooting position or shooting off of support, I don't have to worry about resting the gun anywhere on the barrel which will affect accuracy.

The suppressor, once a Wolf, then a Wolfman and now a Nomad Ti, has proven light, accurate and more than enough to knock the edge off when hunting with supersonic ammo.

At just 7 lbs 15 ounces shown, the gun is very lightly, especially considering its suppressed, with optic, full length rail and the extra weight from both an ARCA swiss mount as well as the RNG Tactics steady shot that has fill in it for a stable platform from of any surface. I have enjoyed how this rifle has evolved and just this year my daughter used it to take her first first deer, a nice 10 point buck!
